Otahuhu Samoan Methodist Church - a Healthy Village Action Zone indeed!
Healthy Village Action Zones (HVAZ) is a Pacific church based programme funded by the Auckland District Health Board. AH+ runs a significant HVAZ programme throughout the year, across 14x Samoan churches, with various events and activities to improve health outcomes for our Pacific people.
On Saturday 30th March, the HVAZ team held its first ‘My Health Day’ in a series of 3x events that will run at various churches across South Auckland. Held at Otahuhu Samoan Methodist Church, this event was held for women – mothers, daughters, aunties, grandmothers, cousins, friends!
Every attendee was given their own ‘My Health Passport’ which was completed as they made their way around each stand, visiting the health and wellbeing agencies present to have their health information taken and recorded – giving the ladies a valuable reference to take away and share at future health appointments. Any follow up appointments were made on the spot.
We would like to send a huge ‘thank you’ to all the women who attended and also the agencies who helped to make the event a success; Diabetes NZ, Sport Auckland - Green Prescription, BreastScreen Aotearoa, Well Women & Family Trust and Kainga Ora.
The women of Otahuhu Methodist Church deserve an extra special mention for their outstanding Zumba skills. The class was run by Kim of Sport Auckland and it’s safe to say everyone earned a well-deserved rest at the end!
A round of applause for these awesome Zumba ladies!
